October 2012 – The Nurturing of Sangha

It has been a wonderful year experiencing the growth of community surrounding the Pacific Hermitage. The shared experiences and lessons of giving and receiving have continued to nurture the blossoming of Sangha. Many lay supporters have offered their time, skill and resources in support of the 2500 year old tradition as practiced and taught by Ajahn Sudanto and the monastics of the Pacific Hermitage. The Buddha taught that through the practice of Dana (generosity) and Sila (ethical conduct) we develop a strong foundation for our meditation practice. Taking advantage of opportunities to be with monastics whether it be offering a meal, attending teaching days in Portland and White Salmon or working side-byside at a community work day, we are able to learn from the intentional practice and example of the monks. We really are quite fortunate.
